Dictionary of Cook Islands languages

Kia orana and Welcome to the online Ma’uke Dictionary.

We hope to provide you with words and expressions that exclusively originate from Ma’uke. Along with Mitiaro and Atiu these islands are known as ngā pū toru (the three centres) and are located to the northeast of Rarotonga with Ma’uke as the southernmost of the three islands. Ma’uke was a centre of trade and exchange within the Cook Islands as well as with the islands of Eastern Polynesia such as Raiatea, Tahiti, Tubuai, Marquesas. These internal connections have provided a stable platform for polynesian languages which explains linguistical similarities.

This is a bilingual dictionary (English/Maukean) to help you find words promptly.
